Himlung 2008 expeditie SUCCESVOL !

Van 18 september t/m 25 oktober 2008 vond de Himlung 2008 expeditie plaats met als deelnemers de Nederlander Twan van Bakel en de Belg Philip Verheye. Een trektocht van tien dagen bracht hun, samen met een Nepalees team onder leiding van Sherpa Pemba naar het basiskamp op 4840m. Van hieruit werden vervolgens drie kampen op de berg ingericht. Na de acclimatisatietochten te hebben afgerond werd met de toppoging begonnen. Vanuit kamp 3 op 6400m werd in ruim zeven koude uren naar de top geklommen. Daarmee werd Twan van Bakel de 1e Nederlander die deze Himalaya 7000-er beklom.

From 18th september until 25th October the Himlung 2008 expedition took place with Dutchman Twan van Bakel and Philip Verheye from Belgium as expedition participants. A trekking of ten days brought them, together with a Nepalese team with Sherpa Pemba, to basecamp at 4840m. From BC a total of 3 camps were setup and supplied. After the acclimatisation was completed the summit push was started. From camp 3 at 6400m the small team climbed succesfully to the summit in seven cold hours. Twan van Bakel became with this succesfull summit the first Dutch to climb this 7000 peak in the Himalaya.
